Ryobi 18V One+ Cordless Stick Vacuum Review

The latest generation of Ryobi 18V One+ cordless stick vacuum models are out, and we got our hands on two models for the hands-on cleaning time. These lightweight and maneuverable vacuums are becoming more powerful, making them even more popular as a primary vacuum around homes and offices. Is Ryobi the right brand for you? I’m digging into all the dirty details to help you decide.

Taking over the flagship role in Ryobi’s stick vacuum category, this is the most powerful and quietest model in the lineup. Unsurprisingly, it’s packed with features, too.

On the performance side, Ryobi pairs an HP Brushless motor with a High Performance battery to achieve 89 inches of water lift and 120 air watts.

Despite that high of a power level, the rated operating noise level is as low as 61 decibels. Measured from the user’s ear, we registered 64 decibels in the lowest setting and 67 decibels at the highest with the brushes on (A-weighted, slow response). With the brushes off, we measured just 57 decibels in low. No matter what mode you’re working in, the noise level is low enough that you can tell your teenager to move their feet without having to yell at them.

CanisterCanister

In the canister, there’s a HEPA filter on board that traps 99.97% of particles 0.3 microns or larger. If you don’t need that level of particulate trapping, there’s also a standard filter available.

I measured the canister capacity at 0.75 liters to the max fill line. It requires emptying more frequently than some stick vacs, but it’s on par with similar designs. Its position high on the shaft also gives the floor nozzle more room for the highest maneuverability around and under obstacles.

Dual RollersDual Rollers

The dual roller design combines a front plush roller with a rear brush roller. That rear roller has a Wrap Defense design that minimizes how much hair up to 9 inches is able to tangle around it. The vacuum earns Ryobi’s Pet Rating and is causing a serious conflict between Josh and Noelle as to which of our two husky owners gets to take this one home.

If your home is like mine with a wife and daughter who sport long hair, Ryobi includes a cleaning tool to help easily cut through and dispose of it. Between that and easy access to the rollers, it’s much less of a chore to maintain than the previous models we’ve used.

Ryobi 18V One+ HP Advanced Stick Vacuum Price

As a bare tool, this vacuum is $299. With it, you get a crevice tool, micro crevice tool, dust brush, mini motorized beater bar, accessory holder, and maintenance tool.

The best value is the kit which adds a 4.0Ah High Performance battery and charger for $379. But wait, there’s more! The kit also includes a charging docking station. Installed on the wall and plugged in, you don’t have to remove the battery to charge it, so the vacuum is always ready when you are. It holds your additional nozzles as well.

The Bottom Line

As the most powerful and quietest of Ryobi’s lineup, the HP Advanced Stick Vacuum is the best for all-around use around your home or office. Even though its capacity isn’t as generous as high-capacity models, it’s a trade-off I’m willing to make to keep the ultra-high maneuverability that helps me work around furniture legs and reach deeper underneath furniture better.

Another impressive brushless model that launched in spring 2024 is the HP High-Capacity Stick Vacuum. From a performance perspective, it’s not quite as powerful as the HP Advanced with 70 inches of water lift and 65 air watts on the top end.

Ryobi’s previous generation pet stick vac had 75 inches of water lift. With slightly less power on the HP High-Capacity, I don’t feel frustrated by low power the way I do with other models I’ve used.

Dual RollersDual Rollers

Like the HP Advanced model, this is a dual roller system that includes a plush front roller and Wrap Defense roller on the rear. It has easy access to the rollers when it’s time for cleaning and Ryobi includes a maintenance tool to help you out. Fortunately for Josh and Noelle, this model is another that earns Ryobi’s Pet Rating, so they’ll both be able to enjoy their huskies and a cleaner living space.

I measured the canister volume to the max fill line at 1.25 liters—half a liter more than the HP Advanced. With 2/3 more collection volume, you’ll have to empty it less often.

Physically, the motor and canister are down towards the floor. That shifts the weight down, and results in the lightest Ryobi stick vacuum in your hand at just 3 pounds. The total weight with a battery is 10.1 pounds, but since the floor holds the majority of that, you feel much less of it in your hand as you work.

ManeuverabilityManeuverability

Other high-capacity stick vacuums I’ve reviewed usually have less maneuverability to make room for the lower-oriented canister. However, this model was able to make just as tight a turn as the HP Advanced.

Ryobi 18V One+ HP High-Capacity Stick Vacuum Price

As a bare tool, this model is $229. The kit steps up with a 4.0Ah High Performance battery and charger for $279. Even if you’re already on the 18V One+ system, the kit is worth snagging for the additional savings on an advanced battery.

The Bottom Line

Ryobi’s 18V One+ HP High-Capacity Stack Vacuum balances things nicely with excellent capacity, low weight in hand, and mid-range pricing while maintaining very good performance. While it’s not as powerful as the HP Advanced vac, it’s just as maneuverable, more affordable, has greater collection capacity, and is a good fit for cleaning both carpet and hard floors.
