Perlite is an all-natural porous and lightweight soil additive used with indoor potting mixes to help improve soil drainage, expanding up to 15x to keep oversaturated potting soils from caking, hardening, and suffocating roots. Perlite helps drain excessive moisture known to cause mold, mildew, and rot in poorly drained soils.
