Hilti is continuing to expand the Nuron lineup, which now includes two cordless band saws. There are a number a great options on the market to choose from—is Hilti the right one for you? Let’s find out!

Hilti Cordless Band Saw Performance

Hilti Cordless Band Saw
  • No-Load Speed: 492 ft/min.
  • Cut Capacity: 5 in.
  • Kitted Blade: 14/18 TPI

The Hilti cordless deep cut band saw has a large 5×5-inch cut capacity. It comes equipped with a 14/18 TPI blade that easily powers through PVC, cast iron, stainless steel, large angle iron carbon steel, and aluminum. Hilti takes a no-nonsense approach to the speed controls and utilizes a 5-position dial and a simple on/off trigger. This saw has a top speed of 492 feet per minute, which makes it incredibly versatile on the jobsite.

When it comes time to swap the blade, Hilti made it pretty easy, but you will need a T25 Torx wrench. Start by loosening the six captured Torx screws to remove the two blade covers. Next, rotate the tension lever to release the tensioner pulley, slip off the old blade, and replace it with a fresh blade. Once your blade is properly seated, turn the tension lever and lock it in place.

Pro Tip: Blade changes are a great opportunity to clean any loose shavings and debris from the pulley housings.

Rebar, threaded rod, unistrut, PVC, conduit – we could go at it with a hacksaw or recip saw, but the Hilti cordless deep cut band saw has your back. This is a great option for cutting in occupied spaces because of its lower noise level and virtually spark-free cutting capabilities.

Hilti Cordless Band Saw Design Notes

Band Saw ProfileBand Saw Profile
  • Model: Hilti SB 6-22
  • Power Source: Hilti Nuron B 22 battery
  • Weight: 14.1 lbs (bare), 17.1 lbs (with B 22-170 battery)
  • Blade Length: 44-7/8 in.

Ergonomically speaking, this portable saw is really easy to handle and maneuver. It weighs in at 14.1 pounds as a bare tool, and 17.1 pounds with a B 22-170 Nuron battery. If you want to drop a little weight, you can always go with one of the smaller Nuron batteries.

In terms of safety, I really love that Hilti went with a dual-trigger design. To start the saw, you first pull the rear trigger and then pull the L-shaped trigger on the front handle. This intentional trigger sequence helps prevent any accidental activations during transport.

Another helpful feature is the adjustable shoe. Its tool free design is very easy to adjust on the fly, so you can quickly switch between cutting applications.

Additional Features

  • LED work light
  • Folding rafter hook
  • Tether ready for working at height
  • Compatible with all Hilti Nuron batteries

Hilti Cordless Band Saw Price

This cordless band saw retails for $399 as a bare tool. At the time we’re writing this article, there’s no kit option available.

For our fleet and tool crib managers, Hilti does offer special fleet pricing for this band saw. This comes out to $13.25 per month as a bare tool and comes with no-cost repairs, one-day turnaround, and theft coverage.

The Bottom Line

The Hilti Nuron Cordless Band Saw is definitely a winner in my book. It’s easy to operate and maneuver and offers smooth, accurate cuts in EMT, steel pipe, and PVC. All in all, the large cut capacity and comfortable ergonomics give this cordless band saw a premium feel, making it a great option for metal-cutting tasks across the trades.
