EGO Adds a Compact Area Light to the 56V Lineup
EGO is well-known for its battery-powered lawn care equipment and lifestyle products that all use the same 56V batteries. Adding to the list of offerings on this platform is the EGO 56V Compact Area Light, which is the brand’s second iteration of work light. I’m going over the details, performance specs, and design to see if this compact light is the right tool for your jobsite.

EGO 56V Cordless Area Light LT1000 Review
EGO Compact Area Light Performance
- Model: EGO LT0300
- Color temperature adjusts from 2700K to 5000K
- Max brightness: 3000 lumens
- Up to 60 hours of runtime on low
Light Output
While this model is more compact than EGO’s first area light, it still packs a punch in terms of brightness. On the highest setting, the LT0300 delivers up to 3000 lumens, which, for a compact model, is nothing to turn your nose at.
I tested it in our 1700-square-foot shop and it provided a good amount of light coverage. While it didn’t fill the entire area, it was about what I expected coverage-wise for a light of this size. There are three light panels (one central and two peripheral) that provide a decent spread of illumination.
The EGO LT0300 area light has five brightness settings ranging from 600 lumens to 3000 lumens, with + and – buttons to toggle through them.
You can also switch between Area mode, in which all three light panels are illuminated, Task mode, which lights up only the central LED panel, and Ambience mode, where only the two peripheral panels are illuminated.
Light Quality
This light features five color temperature modes, which you can select using the color temperature adjustment button.
The color temperatures are as follows:
- Warm white (2700k)
- Neutral white (3300k)
- Natural white (3600k)
- Cool white (4200k)
- Daylight white (5000k)
If I were looking to keep insects at bay while I relaxing outdoors, I would use the warm white (2700k) option since it’s the least attractive color to many insects. On the other hand, for task-oriented lighting needs, I would switch to daylight white (5000k) since it provides the most true-to-color experience.
Runtime
Using an EGO 56V 5.0Ah battery (sold separately), you can get up to a whopping 60 hours of runtime on the lowest setting. On the highest brightness setting, you can expect it to run around 6.5 hours.
I do wish this light had a hybrid design so I could plug in an AC power cable for longer runtimes, but that’s not something we’re seeing from EGO just yet.
SOS Mode
This light has an SOS mode that blinks “S.O.S.” in Morse code to alert those around you that you’re in trouble. To activate this setting, hold the Mode button for three seconds until the light starts blinking. To turn it off, simply press the Mode button again.
EGO Compact Area Light Design Notes
- Dimensions: 11 x 10.6 x 6.5 inches
- Weight: 4.2 pounds
- Tripod compatible
- Rafter hook
- Multi-positional design
- IPX4 rating
Size and Weight
This light is compact, weighing just 4.2 pounds bare and around 9 pounds with a 5.0Ah battery. While this isn’t the most lightweight area light (since EGO batteries are on the beefier side), I certainly had no issues carrying it around the shop during testing.
Mounting Options
EGO provided a couple convenient mounting points on this light. A retractable rafter hook allows you to hang the light upside down on an object 1.7 inches or smaller in width. You can also mount it on a tripod for some extra height using the 1/4-inch -20 threaded hole.
Additional Features
- USB-C port for powering devices
- Bluetooth compatible for remote controlling
- Compatible with all EGO 56V batteries
EGO Compact Area Light Price
This light retails for $99 for the bare tool and you can find it wherever EGO products are sold. It comes with a 5-year warranty.
The Bottom Line
This compact area light is a great follow-up to EGO’s first iteration panel light. Featuring a wide array of brightness and color temperature settings, it fits right in both at home and on the jobsite. For such a small light, it’s feature-heavy and packs a serious punch in terms of illumination.
