Can You Spot the Mountain Lion in This Photo?

You can certainly see the elk in the photo below, but can you spot the mountain lion? That’s right—somewhere in this photo, there’s a mountain lion stalking the elk that’s hunched over in the foreground. The cougar is so camouflaged that it’s nearly impossible to spot until you really look for it. (Zooming up on the photo helps, too.)

The trail camera photo comes from the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service (USFWS). The organization recently reposted the photo on its Facebook page, challenging people to find the mountain lion.

USFWS says: “This photo was taken as part of a monitoring project looking at the success of restoring arroyos at Rio Mora National Wildlife Refuge and Conservation Area in New Mexico. The image demonstrates how skilled mountain lions are at blending in while they stalk their potential prey.”

(If you haven’t found it yet, check the lower right section of the photo, next to the lone tree.)

So, did you spot the mountain lion?

It’s dead center in the zoomed-up version below. Look for the white marks on its face.
