Celebrate National Park Week at Chickasaw National Recreation Area in Oklahoma this Saturday with a wildflower walk.

The walk will be at Veterans Lake and led by volunteer ranger Ron Parker. The leisurely stroll covers about half a mile along the scenic Inkana Trail, showcasing the seasonal blooms of the area. The group will meet at the Veterans Lake Dam parking area at 10 a.m. to embark on this nature-filled adventure.

“The flowers respond differently to variations in temperature and rainfall. Every year it’s a different display, and we always have something beautiful to discover,” said Parker.

Following the walk, participants are invited to join a garden tour at the nearby Chickasaw Cultural Center. Led by Rhonda Sellers, ecological resource coordinator at the Cultural Center, this tour provides insight into the Indigenous plants and cultural significance of the gardens. The garden tour begins around 11 a.m.

Please note that the event duration is approximately one hour for the Wildflower Walk and an additional half hour for the garden tour. For more information about Chickasaw National Recreation Area, visit the park website.
