EGO Advances its Chainsaw Lineup With a 20-Inch Farm and Ranch Model
As battery-powered technology progresses, the line between gas and cordless performance gets thinner and thinner. EGO’s chainsaw lineup is a case in point, offering battery-powered models for every skill level. The EGO 20-inch chainsaw is their first entry into the farm and ranch arena, and it shows off some promising specs and performance.
Pros
- Excellent cutting power
- Zero ramp up
- Three cutting speeds
- Omnidirectional chain brake
- Onboard tool storage
Cons
EGO 20-Inch Chainsaw Performance
- Gas Equivalent: 55cc
- Chain Speed: 25 m/s
- Motor: Brushless
- Chain Pitch: 3/8 in.
- Chain Gauge: 0.050 in.
The EGO CS2005 chainsaw features a powerful brushless motor that powers its 0.050 gauge full chisel tooth chain up to 25 m/s. That puts it right in line with what we expect from a farm and ranch grade chainsaw. EGO utilizes a 3/8-inch pitch chain, and they even give you the number of links, so finding replacements is a little easier.
This saw features three cutting speeds and a lightning fast trigger response, which is a huge improvement over their 18-inch model. As a 20-inch model, this chainsaw has a cutting capacity of 18 inches, which is ideal for downing larger trees and bucking logs. One thing I discovered is that you cannot engage the top speed with anything smaller than a 6.0Ah battery.
Cutting Power
EGO tells us it delivers the same performance as a 55cc gas chainsaw, without the fumes, noise, or maintenance. With that in mind, I took this saw out to see how it would perform against our seasoned Oak test log. Much to our delight, the CS2005 powered through our log like a hot knife through butter. Its powerful motor maintained RPMs throughout the cuts and truly showcased its farm and ranch prowess.

Size and Weight
This saw weighs in at 13.1 pounds as a bare tool, 19.4 pounds with the kitted 6.0ah battery, and measures 38 inches from time to tail. In spite of its size, I was able to maneuver this saw pretty easily. In fact, the weight distribution was very similar to some of the gas models I’ve used, so it would be a pretty easy transition.
Digital Display
Something new on this latest model is its digital display above the rear handle. This shows the cutting mode, battery charge status, chain brake indicator, as well as any fault codes that may pop up while cutting. Moreover, the screen is still visible in direct sunlight, which here in Central Florida, that’s a pretty tall order!
Chain Brake
Another new feature to EGO’s chainsaw lineup is their omnidirectional auto chain brake sensor. This works in tandem with the kickback brake to stop the chain rotation in a variety of tool orientations for added safety.
Additional Features
- LED work light
- Metal bucking spikes
- Captured bar nuts
- Onboard tool storage
- Compatible with all EGO 56V batteries
EGO 20-inch Chainsaw Price

The Bottom Line
It’s been a lot of fun for us to see such big improvements in performance from EGO with their 56V lineup. If you’ve used other EGO’s previous battery-powered chainsaws, prepare yourself for a cutting experience on a completely different level. With this major overhaul, the EGO 20-Inch Chainsaw shows off some true farm and ranch qualities, propelling itself into contention with the top cordless models available.
