Southern California saw severe weather this week with strong winds and extreme flooding. The state’s governor declared a State of Emergency, with cleanup now underway. However, in places further from the coast, the weather brought more of a taste of winter. Multiple desert parks saw snow in areas of higher elevation.
These photos are from Anza-Borrego Desert State Park. The massive park in San Diego County covers an astounding 640,000 acres. It’s a popular destination for people looking to escape the winter weather in other parts of the country, so it’s a surprising sight.
However, park officials say snow is not as uncommon as you might think. Although, they did comment that the snow usually melts pretty quickly.
Other places that occasionally see snow include Joshua Tree National Park. Parts of the park sit around 3,000 feet in elevation.

The desert wasn’t the only place to see snow. The storm was also good news for ski fans, as the wet weather dumped snow in places like Mammoth.
